11.17.09

This weekend was worthwhile and fun. The weather was perfect, so I rode my bike over to the outdoor shops, which involved me partaking in yet another indulgence that involves hard-earned babysitting money...and on the way back, I stopped at the thrift store. If you must know, the splurge was my first foundation buy...some Clinique at Saks. Anyone else use this and like it?
Oh, and I stopped by the agency to say hello and finally have a little something to show you! ;D There are a lot more but these are my faves... Please don't take these photographs, though. Thanks for understanding.

i am currently loving that rich, camel color seen at chloe (and worn by models above.) i am going thrifting today and hope to find some pieces in that shade.

my favorite photog: hans feurer

For me, the discovery of a beloved photographer comes when you realize he is the one who shot the majority of your all-time favorite editorials or campaigns. From now on, instead of paying little or no attention to the miniscule text on the pages, I am going to take a second glance at the names if I find myself wanting more.

The emotion! The expression! That salty, dishevelled beauty...he's brought out the very best in Tanya, Chanel, and Ali, among others...
You can see more of his work here. He also frequently shoots for Teen Vogue and Muse Magazine.

factory fresh

I suppose you can call it comical, but these days, with the exception of shoes in the monster-size 11, I rarely purchase anything from a "new" store. Garments are all second-hand. And that skirt I was wearing in the post below? A rummage sale.

the dip-dyed and starry night tube bras are from american apparel, and the jacket (yesssss) is from dare i say t.j. maxx.

How was everyone's Halloween? My mother was kind enough to buy me a beautiful, over-sized witch hat and I sat outside and distributed candy to the little ones, and occasionally the cute boys who are much too old to be trick-or-treating. Heh heh.

answer time!

In response to your questions from a few posts back...

Who is your role model? DVF all the way. And my dad.
Do you get "dressed" to run errands, or do you just throw on a tee and jeans? I love having a good variety of effortless pieces and a collection of mental "lazy day" outfits for things exactly like running errands. At school, however, I definitely "dress."

Fave...
Blog? The seven I just nominated for the Gorgeous Award are definitely on my top, but I also love Uno Cosa's Scrapbook, Faboo, Model Whispers, Alta Mira NYC, and The Cut.
Model? For personal style and occasional drama, Vlada. For an inspiring attitude, Karlie. For humour, Daul. And for underrated edge, Flo.
Skin Care Product? I swear by Neutrogena Rapid Clear Treatment Pads. They work wonders.
Color? Really? I love art, if that's what you meant.

And About the Whole Modeling? I am on my way, I promise. Development is in the works. I will have the pics from my latest test up as soon as I can get them to you!
What would you wear to a casting? That is the fun part! It all depends on the job. If the designer is known for fun, flirty clothes, you might wear a pretty vintage dress. But the main idea is to stand out and leave a positive impression on the people you meet with.
Are People Jealous of You/Are You Popular? Hah. While all my friends are very supportive of me, small-town suburb traditions such as sports, church, and shopping malls often snag the minds of most kids I know at a young age. There is really no room for an interest in fashion where I live, and that's okay. Fashion doesn't have to be widespread everywhere. So I guess the answer to this question would be no, people are certainly not jealous of me because in my society I am not popular, nor am I pretty. I am the towering twig with odd clothes.

I hope those were adequate responses. Before I go, I wanted to share with you a scan of what I believe is a Japanese Harper's Bazaar. (I found this on tfs.) It is a chart of some well-known models and their favorite shopping destinations in NYC!

accepting the beautiful and gorgeous blogger award

Last week or so, Alexandra over at Fashion as We Know It was thoughtful enough to nominate me for my first-ever blog award! I ecstatically accept! If I want to follow through, however, I must list 7 things people might find interesting, as well as nominate 7 other bloggers. Thanking and linking the person who picked you is also imperative. And behold:

the 7 statements i thought you might find interesting

1. scientists are now almost certain that mini or monster (depending on the planet size) earths exist somewhere beyond the stars!
2. New York Fashion Week was officially acknowledged in 1943.
3. I used to have five pet rats. [winnifred, olive, rosie, baron, and blackjack.]
4. Chewing gum burns about 11 calories an hour.
5. americans use approx. 380 billion plastic bags a year. it takes a millenium for one bag to completely decompose.
6. German gang members once had plans to kidnap Karl Lagerfeld.
7. When it comes to personal identities, people in Asia and Africa strive to be part of a uniform group, while Americans and Europeans are obsessed with "individuality."

time to get bundled up!

today was a looong day. had a test shoot on location. since i was nearby, went to the tyrannasaurus rex of shopping malls and cried tears of joy as i ran my hands through herve leger's fall collection at boutique. beautiful clothes are only more beautiful in person, when one can inspect the craftsmanship, detail, and texture of every piece. will keep everyone posted with results of shoot, and the answers to the questions as well as a blog award are to come. now, be sidetracked with editorial wonders as i scramble to finish my english paper!!

they're coming to take me away

I ordered these yesterday, from Aldo:

Thoughts? I just think they're a really nice basic, tall shoe.

Yesterday I received an email from a young lady requesting that I do a "Q&A" post. Now that my blog is a little more developed, I suppose this is a great time to have one. So whether you would like to put me through a grueling interrogation or simply ask me what my favorite food is, shoot over an email or comment and I will gladly answer.

recycler

So I looked back at some old TeenVogue editorials (this one is from 2006,) and I played a little game of copycat while getting dressed for school yesterday. I just layered a shirt under a dress and added a necklace. Tada! Simple, cute outfit!

What I wore for thrifting over the weekend: (yes, it is still very hot here...)

Here are some snapshots of me trying on a vintage blue '50s dress in the antique store. I went in to sell a few bags of old clothing and jewelry for $2o, and the dress, as well as a pair of vintage taupe gloves, were GIVEN to me for FREE. The store owner is an angel. I plan on wearing the dress with leggings and a black motorcycle jacket. Any more ideas?

have a great rest of the week everyone!!
